Yamaha Motor Company has completed its acquisition of Torqeedo, a market leader in electric propulsion for boats, including some of the most popular electric outboards available.

In January, Yamaha announced its intention to acquire DEUTZ AG's subsidiary, Torqeedo, a leading electric marine propulsion company, subject to the approval of relevant local laws and regulations. Torqeedo, renowned for its innovation in electric propulsion, boasts an extensive range of electric outboard and inboard motors, batteries, and accessories. The company has seen increasing sales in Europe's growing small electric motor market and has over 250 patents in electric motor technology, propeller design, and electric systems.

Today the two companies announced the successful closing of the deal, immediately elevating Yamaha's position as a global market leader in waterborne e-propulsion. The closing of the share purchase agreement with the German engine manufacturer marks a milestone in the marine industry. Torqeedo possesses the research and development, mass-production, and development capabilities necessary for advancing next-generation environmental technologies.

Yamaha's acquisition of Torqeedo aims to enhance its research and development in the electric sector as part of its Marine CASE Strategy, which guides the company's marine product business under its current Medium-Term Management Plan.

This move also supports Yamaha's commitment to carbon neutrality in the marine sector and expedites the development of a small electric propulsion range. The merger of Torqeedo's technological assets with Yamaha's extensive experience in marine engine design and hull construction is expected to foster innovation in mid-range electric outboard motors, positioning Yamaha as a leader in the electric boat propulsion market.

Through the execution of its Marine CASE Strategy, Yamaha aspires to enrich marine life for its customers by offering high-value products and services, ultimately contributing to its long-term vision of enhancing ocean value.
